Why You Can’t Go Through One More Year of ‘The Usual Routine’

You get up, make coffee, maybe get the kids ready for school, and head out the door. It’s a regular day and after your usual morning routine, you’ll head off to work. It’s a 9-5 job. Or maybe you’re a stay-at-home parent and you’re working around the house for the day, running errands and basically keeping your household together.

You don’t hate it, but you also don’t love it. You’re okay there. Satisfied. Safe. You have a routine, and that’s great. Until it’s not.

You have a good life, but do you ever wonder if it could be better? If there’s room for more fulfillment? It’s so easy to get stuck here, in this routine place. Do you ever find yourself daydreaming about another life? One that’s not so consistent, organized, and scheduled?

You're not alone.

Change can be scary. We’re afraid of the unknown. You know what’s scarier than change, though? Staying the same. Not growing. Sinking into our fear and allowing it to swallow us whole. The most profound growth happens when we step into our fears and nowhere else.

Find exactly what it is that scares you the most and go there.

When it comes down to it, change and the unknown only help us grow and expand into the people we truly want to be. When we listen to our intuitions and we trust what we hear, we cannot fail. Not really. Because failing doesn’t mean not succeeding, failing means not trying at all.

The thing is, at one point or another, we all feel this; the need to just go, to take a huge risk, or to completely flip our lives upside down.

It’s simple, really. We all have two choices: to live, or to exist.

As far as we know, we only get one life. This one. And the greatest gift we could ever give ourselves is to live the heck out of it.

It’s easy to find excuses for staying the same. You could say you’ll do it later, you don’t have a logical reason, or that you’re not deserving of a better life. But here’s the thing, you only need one reason to make a change in your life. Just one.

Because you want to.

Wanting to is enough.

We are constantly looking for reasons and justification. Well, guess what? When you’re heart is pulling you in one direction and your intuition is guiding you the same way, that is enough.

We know, deep down, exactly what’s right for our lives. We just need to find the strength and willingness to trust that knowing. We must give ourselves permission to want the life we want.

And then find the courage to live it. Because sometimes courage simply means being yourself. Courage is being yourself in your truest form. Being the you that doesn’t question your intuition, that doesn’t ask for advice, and sure as hell doesn’t run away from your fears.

We’ve been conditioned to believe there is a right way and a wrong way to live.

We listened when our parents and teachers told us to get a degree, find a partner, and a house with a white picket fence. We listened when they told us to have x-amount of money in the bank by a certain age. We listened we they told us to feel less and do more, dream less and work more.

You know what everybody else is saying.

But what are you saying?

Illuminate your life with your light, your words, your rules.

Sit down and get clear on what you want. We can live our entire lives listening to everyone else, taking their advice and ignoring our own. Or we could get up, and choose ourselves. We could decide to trust our life and change up that monotonous routine. All it takes is one reason to do it. And wanting to is always enough.

Give yourself room to grow. Stretch beyond your comfort zone and watch how you expand. That life you dream of isn’t meant for anybody but yourself.

So be courageous. Be the real you. The one that doesn’t stop to ask what somebody else thinks about your choices. The one that lives boldly and without hesitation. The one that is unapologetic about who you are.

Because if there’s one thing in this life that you absolutely get to be, it’s You.

Do You. Be You.

Forget everything else.

Change is a wonderful thing. In my earlier years I was so afraid of change. When I graduated from high school and went to college my life changed constantly. I’ve never even lived in the same apartment for more than 1 year. I’m 27 and I’ve had 8 apartments! Lol. Today I’m self employed and I love embracing the unknown. That’s what make life so fresh and fun. We are all constantly changing whether we want to embrace it or not. When we embrace change, that’s when the magic happens. This yoga retreat looks wonderful. I’ve always wanted to visit Costa Rica, I can’t think of a better reason to go than this!

So true – change is hard! It is so easy to get stuck in situations and routines that we settle for because change is scary. I was once stuck in an abusive relationship for many years and sometimes it became so “normal” that I forgot that it wasn’t okay and that things needed to change. It was a huge decision to leave and it meant changing absolutely everything in my life – job, cities, houses, and friends. Looking back, I can’t believe I waited that long to change my life.
